Detailed explanation-1: -The hair shaft is formed of three layers: The medulla – the deepest layer of the hair shaft, only seen in large and thick hairs. The cortex – the middle layer of the hair shaft which provides the strength, colour and texture of a hair fibre. The cuticle – the outer layer of the hair shaft is thin and colourless.

Detailed explanation-2: -The cuticle itself comprises three layers: the cuticular layer; cuticle proper; and epicuticular waxes (Figure 1). The cuticular layer is the innermost layer, which overlays the primary wall and consists of cellulose and other polysaccharides along with cutin and wax.
