Detailed explanation-1: -A total of 16 afforestation projects have been approved under the Namami Gange, for which Rs 236.56 crore has been allocated. Questions have also been raised on why money allocated under the project was not spent.

Detailed explanation-2: -The Namami Gange is an integrated conservation programme approved by the government of India to accomplish the twin objectives of effective abatement of pollution, conservation and rejuvenation of the Ganga. The Namami Gange was established as a Flagship Conservation Programme by the government of India in 2014.

Detailed explanation-3: -’Namami Gange Programme’, is an Integrated Conservation Mission, approved as ‘Flagship Programme’ by the Union Government in June 2014 with budget outlay of Rs. 20, 000 Crore to accomplish the twin objectives of effective abatement of pollution, conservation and rejuvenation of National River Ganga.

Detailed explanation-4: -of India has further approved Namami Gange Mission –II with a budgetary outlay of Rs 22, 500 Cr. till 2026 for projects for existing liabilities and new projects/interventions.

Detailed explanation-5: -Programmes for conservation of key iconic species such as Golden Mahaseer, Dolphins, Ghariyals, Turtles, Otters, etc. have been already initiated. Similarly, under ‘NamamiGange’ 30, 000 hectares of land will be afforested for increased recharge of the aquifers, reduced erosion, and improved health of river ecosystem.
