Detailed explanation-1: -The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the enhancement of superannuation age of doctors other than doctors of the Central Health Services (CHS) falling under various Departments/Ministries/autonomous organisations, to 65 years.

Detailed explanation-2: -The medical education department has already enhanced the retirement age of faculty members to 65 years. At present, the medical and health department has over 3, 000 specialist doctors who also work as faculty members to offer PG/DNB courses at some government hospitals.

Detailed explanation-3: -The retirement age for central government employees was last revised in May 1998, when it was moved up from 58 to 60 years.

Detailed explanation-4: -Extension: F.R. 56(d) states that no Government servant shall be granted extension of service beyond the age of 60 years. However, provisions exist in the rules to grant extension of service to certain category of Government servants only.
