Detailed explanation-1: -New Delhi: The government has banned import of dogs for breeding and other commercial purposes, conceding the demand of environmental organisations demanding such a step for years.

Detailed explanation-2: -Only defense and security forces are allowed to import certain breeds. As for the Indian nationals and foreigners bringing their dogs from outside, they’d be required to carry all the necessary documents when travelling into the country.

Detailed explanation-3: -BREEDS BANNED The 11 dog breeds that have been banned are: American Bulldog, American Pit bull terriers, Dogo Argentino, Rottweiller, Boerboel, Presa Canario, Neapolitian Mastiff, Wolfdog, Cane Corso, Bandog and Fila Brasileiro. All these are categorised as “dangerous foreign breeds”.

Detailed explanation-4: -Cetaceans (dolphin or porpoise), penguins, otters and manatees are banned according to the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. It is also prohibited to keep or sell a few species of endangered fish. India might be known for snake charmers but it is illegal to own any native wildlife snake species here.
