Detailed explanation-1: -An Optional Travel Insurance Scheme with a cover of upto Rs. 10 lakh was launched w.e.f 01.09. 2016 for the Confirmed/RAC railway passengers who book online e-ticket through official website of Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) which is a wholly owned undertaking of Ministry of Railways.

Detailed explanation-2: -E-tickets in the airline industry were devised in about 1994, and have now largely replaced the older multi-layered paper ticketing systems. Since 1 June 2008, it has been mandatory for IATA members to use e-ticketing.

An Optional Travel Insurance Scheme was launched w.e.f 01.09. 2016 for the Confirmed/RAC Railway passengers who book e-ticket through official website of Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) portal at the premium of Rs. 0.92 per passenger.
