Detailed explanation-1: -The Indian Government has approved a 2, 600 crore rupees (approximately 390 million US dollars) special package to generate employment in the country’s leather and footwear industry which aims to create 3.24 lakh jobs in the next three years.

Detailed explanation-2: -During 2021-22, India exported total leather and leather products of value US$ 4.87 billion, a 32% increase from the previous year. In August 2022, the total leather exports stood at US$ 473.87 million.

It plays a unique position in Indian Economy but the industries run profit motive and earn more profit through the leather product clusters like leather finished goods, leather garments leather footwear, saddler and harness.

Detailed explanation-4: -Tamil Nadu is the biggest leather producing state in India. Around 40 per cent of the total leather produced in the country comes from Tamil Nadu itself. Some major leather producing areas of Tamil Nadu are Chennai, Vaniyambadi, Dindigul, Vellore, and Trichy.
