Detailed explanation-1: -Government of India has undertaken multiple large-scale national initiatives such as ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, ‘National Water Mission’ and ‘Waste to Wealth Mission” as a part of its commitment to effective waste & pollution management in India.

Detailed explanation-2: -At the national policy level, the ministry of environment and forests has legislated the Municipal Waste Management and Handling Rules 2000. This law details the practices to be followed by the various municipalities for managing urban waste.

This new rule was notified on 8th April 2016 and it supersedes the Municipal Solid Waste Rules, 2000.
