Detailed explanation-1: -Dharamshala is the second capital of Himachal Pradesh. On 19 January 2017, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh declared Dharamshala the second capital of the state of Himachal Pradesh, making Himachal Pradesh the third state of India with two capitals after Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra.

Detailed explanation-2: -HP state cabinet has approved Dharamsala as 2nd capital of state. On January 19, HP CM Virbhadra Singh had proposed Dharamsala as state’s winter capital. Dharamsala lies in Kangra district, some 250km from the state capital Shimla.

Detailed explanation-3: -But why does it require 2 capitals? According to the CM of the state, having 2 capitals would improve the condition of the lower-lying areas of HP including Kangra, Chamba, Hamirpur and Una districts and help the people who had to travel to Shimla for work.
