Detailed explanation-1: -The Maharashtra government’s allows use, storage, sale, distribution and transportation of such plastic items. The notification also allows plastic items less than 50 microns and items less then 60 grams per square metre for packaging purposes.

Detailed explanation-2: -Plastic carry bags with a thickness of less than 75 microns are currently illegal to manufacture, import, stock, distribute, sell, and use, according to the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021. Plastic carry bags with a thickness of less than 120 microns will be forbidden as of December 31, 2022.

Detailed explanation-3: -In the latest amendment, the government decided to ban 50-micron thick plastic bags and prescribed a higher thickness of 75 microns. From January 1, 2023, the thickness of the plastic bag will be further revised to 120 microns, according to the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021.

Detailed explanation-4: -Additionally, with effect from December 31, 2022, the thickness of plastic carry bags must be increased from 75 microns to 120 microns to allow their re-use. MoEFCC had earlier banned polythene bags under 75 microns in September 2021, widening the limit from the earlier 50 microns.
