Detailed explanation-1: -In 2005, Chennai-based National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) set up a desalination plant with a capacity of 1, 00, 000 litres potable water a day.

Detailed explanation-2: -The Minjur desalination plant is located in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, and will start operations in May 2010. The Minjur desalination plant is the largest desalination plant in India being built on a 60-acre site in Kattupalli village near Chennai.
