Detailed explanation-1: -In Karnataka, Justice Bhimanagouda Sanganagouda Patil was sworn in today as the Lokayukta, anti-corruption ombudsman in Bengaluru. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office to the new Lokayukta in a simple ceremony at Raj Bhavan today.

Detailed explanation-2: -Karnataka has had an interesting history with the anti-corruption body. Set up in 1984 under Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde, the Karnataka Lokayukta Act was responsible for Hegde quitting twice on charges of corruption.

Detailed explanation-3: -The Lokayukta is appointed by the Governor of the State, through nomination by its Chief Minister (in consensus with Chief justice of the State High Court, Leaders of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Chairman of the Legislative Council).

Detailed explanation-4: -About Lokpal The Act came into force on 16th January, 2014 and has been amended once in 2016 since its notification. Vide notification dated 26th May 2022, Shri Justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty, Member (Judicial) has been authorised to act as the Chairperson, Lokpal with effect from 28th May, 2022.
