Detailed explanation-1: -Empowered Committee of Officers for Nirbhaya funds scheme has approved pilot Safe City projects in eight selected metropolitan cities, namely, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Lucknow with a view to provide safety to women in public places at a total cost of Rs. 2919.55 crore.

Detailed explanation-2: -Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu is undoubtedly the safest city for women in India in 2022. The rate of crime in the city in 2019 was only 7.9. Crime rate is the number of crimes recorded per one lakh of the population. The number of crimes recorded in the city in 2019 was 85.

Detailed explanation-3: -After the incident, a dedicated fund called ‘Nirbhaya Fund’ was established for implementation of initiatives aimed at enhancing the safety and security of women in the country. From its inception till 2021-22, the total allocation under the fund has been over ₹6, 000 crore, of which ₹4, 200 crore has been utilised.
