Detailed explanation-1: -Assam is the only state to have a National Register of Citizens. NRC was only published once in 1951. After a petition in the Supreme Court by the Assam public works, the Supreme Court passed the issue to update the NRC in December 2013.

Detailed explanation-2: -The National Register of Citizens (NRC) is a register containing names of all genuine Indian citizens. At present, only Assam has such a register. The exercise may be extended to other states as well.

Detailed explanation-3: -NRC was first introduced after the 1951 Census of India and Assam was the first in updating this NRC for including the names of the persons along with their descendants whose name was successfully registered in the NRC of 1951, or was found in any of the electoral rolls till the midnight of 24th March 1971.
