Detailed explanation-1: -It was introduced into India’s parliament on 22 December 2011, promulgated as a presidential ordinance on 5 July 2013, and enacted into law on 12 September 2013. Government of Odisha announced implementation of the act in 14 district from 17 November 2015. Government of Assam implemented the Act on 24 December 2015.

Detailed explanation-2: -Chhattisgarh government was the first who took the initiative to pass the first food security act in the country.

Detailed explanation-3: -The Act legally entitles upto 75% of the rural population and 50% of the urban population to receive subsidized foodgrains under Targeted Public Distribution System. About two thirds of the population therefore is covered under the Act to receive highly subsidized foodgrains.

Detailed explanation-4: -In the mid-1970s, the Government of India launched three important food intervention programmes for food security. They include Public Distribution System (PDS) for food grains; Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) (introduced on an experimental basis) and Food-for-Work (FFW).
