Detailed explanation-1: -In the third phase of the PMSSY, the government has upgraded 39 existing Government Medical Colleges/Institutions. The cost of upgrading each institute is estimated at 150 crore, and the same will be contributed by the State and Central Government.

Detailed explanation-2: -The Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) was announced in 2003 with the objectives of correcting regional imbalances in the availability of affordable/ reliable tertiary healthcare services and also to augment facilities for quality medical education in the country.

Detailed explanation-3: -PMSSY has two components: A. Setting up of new AIIMS Institutions in underserved regions of the country, and B. Up-gradation of existing Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) which broadly envisages improving health infrastructure through establishment of Super Speciality Blocks/Trauma Care Centres.
