Detailed explanation-1: -Bhubaneswar, Odisha has been chosen as the venue for the celebration of handloom day, due to its rich tradition of handlooms and to empower women and girls of the region. More than 50% of total weavers population of India resides in Eastern and North Eastern region of the country.

Detailed explanation-3: -Every year, August 7 is observed as the National Handloom Day in India to highlight the contribution of the handloom industry in the socio-economic development and create awareness about the sector. The handloom sector is one of the largest economic sectors in the country.

Detailed explanation-4: -The National Handloom Day has been observed on August 7 every year since 2015 to commemorate the launch of the Swadeshi Movement in 1905. It is celebrated to honour the handloom-weaving community of India and to recognise the contribution of the handloom sector to the socio-economic development of the country.

Detailed explanation-5: -In 2015, the Government of India decided to designate the 7th August every year, as the National Handloom Day. The first National Handloom Day was inaugurated on 7 August 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chennai.
