Detailed explanation-1: -Chandigarh, Jan 9 (PTI ) Twelve lakh families have been added to the ‘below poverty line’ (BPL) category after Haryana government increased the annual income criteria for it, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Monday.

Detailed explanation-2: -As per the method authorized by the Union Cabinet, the household income limit to become a beneficiary under the BPL (Below Poverty Line) list is approximately Rs. 27,000 per year. A household will not be included in the BPL list if the annual income of a family exceeds Rs. 27,000.

Detailed explanation-3: -The criteria of verified annual income up to Rs 1.80 lakh is considered to be eligible for the primary family or BPL ration card.

Detailed explanation-4: -It was determined on the basis of monthly expenses on food, education, health, transport and electricity. According to this committee, a person who is spending Rs. 33 a day in urban areas and only Rs. 27 a day in rural areas live below the poverty line.
