Detailed explanation-1: -Gujarat Shops & Establishments Act 1948 The Act provides regulations of the payment of wages, terms of services, work hours, rest intervals, overtime work, opening and closing hours, closed days, holidays, leaves, maternity leave and benefits, work conditions, rules for employment of children, records maintenance, etc.

Detailed explanation-2: -35 of 1980. Amended by Guj. 27 of 1981. An Act to consolidate and amend the law relating to the regulation of conditions of work and employment in shops, commercial establishments, residential hotels, restaurants, eating houses, theatres, other places of public amusement or entertainment and other establishments.

Detailed explanation-3: -The act introduces significant reforms for the employment conditions of the workers in the areas particularly related to the time of operation, overtime, holidays and leave, welfare, health and safety of the workers.

Detailed explanation-4: -Spread-over. - The spread-over of an employee in a residential hotel, restaurant or eating house shall not exceed fourteen hours: Provided that the [State] Government may increase the spread-over period subject to such conditions as it may impose on the days that may be notified under sub-section (3) of section 19.
