Detailed explanation-1: -The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has developed the Bhoomi Rashi portal to digitize the land acquisition process for National Highway (NH) Projects. The Portal has been made mandatory for all the Project Implementing Agencies w.e.f. 01.04. 2018.

Detailed explanation-2: –(1) Where the Central Government is satisfied that for a public purpose any land is required for the building, maintenance, management or operation of a national highway or part thereof, it may, by notification in the Official Gazette, declare its intention to acquire such land.

Detailed explanation-3: -1) This Act may be called the Land Acquisition Act, 1894. (2) It extends to the whole of India except (the state of Jammu and Kashmir). (3) It shall come into force on the first day of March 1894.

Detailed explanation-4: -As per the report, India’s road network as on 31.3. 2017 was 58.98 lakh kms of which National Highways constituted 1.94%, State Highways constituted 2.97%, District Roads constituted 9.94%, Rural Roads (including JRY) constituted 70.65%, Urban roads constituted 9.27% and Project Roads constituted 5.58%.

Detailed explanation-5: -The National Highways Bill, 1956 having been passed by both the Houses of Parliament received the assent of the President on 11th September, 1956. It came into force on 15th day of April, 1957 as THE NATIONAL HIGHWAYS ACT, 1956 (48 of 1956).
