Detailed explanation-1: -Female labour-force participation in India has declined from 34 per cent in 2006 to 24.8 per cent in 2020, according to a new study.

Detailed explanation-2: -India’s low female labour force participation is a complex social phenomenon, resulting from – among other things – patriarchal norms, rural-urban transitions, and a mismatch of supply and demand factors.

Detailed explanation-3: -The female labor force participation rate in India increased by 0.6 percentage points in 2021 in comparison to the previous year. In total, the rate amounted to 19.23 percent in 2021. Female labor force participation is the share of women over 15 years who are economically active.

Detailed explanation-4: -In both rural and urban India, the male workforce participation is much higher than that of females. Male employment rates in this age group have declined slightly from 96% to 94% in rural and from 94% to 91% in urban India. The female workforce participation in urban India has also fallen marginally from 26% to 24%.
