Detailed explanation-3: -. (1) This Act may be called the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Short title and Remains (Amendment and Validation) Act, 2010. commencement. (2) Save as otherwise provided, it shall be deemed to have come into force (except sections 3, 5, 7 and 8 to 11) on the 23rd day of January, 2010.

Construction in ‘prohibited areas’: The Act defines a ‘prohibited area’ as an area of 100 meters around a protected monument or area. The central government can extend the prohibited area beyond 100 meters.
