Detailed explanation-1: -A bright green light-emitting mushroom has been discovered at Mawlynnong in East Khasi Hills district and at Krang Shuri in West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya.

Detailed explanation-2: -Nearly 600 varieties of a bioluminescent mushroom have been found in the jungles of Meghalaya and because of its light-emitting nature, the newly found species has been named Roridomyces phyllostachydis.

Detailed explanation-3: -The bioluminescent fungus belongs to the genus Roridomyces and is a new species to the science, as well as the first report of the genus, Roridomyces in Arunachal Pradesh, informed scientist Dr. Raghuveer Singh of the centre.

Detailed explanation-4: -The new species was found in Mengsong village, Damenglong Township, Jinghong County in China’s southwestern Yunnan Province, and has been named Entoloma mengsongense. The newly discovered mushroom belongs to the Entolomataceae family, which is comprised of around 1, 000 species.

Detailed explanation-5: -A species of glow in the dark mushroom, Panellus stipticus. This naturally occurring bio-luminescent mushroom is common in New England forests in the fall. This species lives on partially decayed oak and uses a unique chemical reaction to digest chemicals in the oak that are toxic to other fungi.
