Detailed explanation-1: -Since independence, the model of deciding pensions for the armed forces had been the ‘one rank one pension’ model for 26 years.

Detailed explanation-2: -One Rank One Pension scheme, OROP Revision 2022, Table: The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday approved the revision of pension of armed forces personnel and their family pensioners under ‘One Rank One Pension’ (OROP) scheme with retrospective effect from July 1, 2019.

Detailed explanation-3: -In March 2022, the Supreme Court upheld the Centre’s OROP scheme for the armed forces, stating that there was no constitutional infirmity in it. The court had also said that re-adjusted pensions under OROP would have to be paid with effect from 1 July, 2019.

Detailed explanation-4: -The government of India announced the revision of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme on 23 December. As per the latest news, 4.52 lakh new beneficiaries have been added to the list. Now, the new number of OROP Pension beneficiaries is 25.13 Lakh. This OROP Revision will be applicable from 1 July 2022.

Detailed explanation-5: -The Government took a historic decision to implement OROP for the Defence Forces Personnel/family pensioners and issued policy letter on November 07, 2015 for revision of pension w.e.f. July 01, 2014. In the said policy letter, it was mentioned that in future, the pension would be re-fixed every 5 years.
