Detailed explanation-1: -Attachments. (Stockholm, 26 April 2021) Total global military expenditure rose to $1981 billion last year, an increase of 2.6 per cent in real terms from 2019, according to new data published today by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

Detailed explanation-2: -Global military expenditure is estimated to have been $1917 billion in 2019, the highest level since 1988. The total was 3.6 per cent higher in real terms than in 2018 and 7.2 per cent higher than in 2010.

Detailed explanation-3: -While China’s expenditure is still less than half of America’s, the country has increased its military spending for 27 years in a row. In fact, China has the largest total of active military personnel, and the country’s military spending has more than doubled over the last decade.

Detailed explanation-4: -Union Budget for the financial year 2019-20, presented by the Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman in the Parliament today, envisaged a total outlay of Rs27, 86, 349 crore. Out of this Rs 3, 18, 931.22 crore has been earmarked for Defence (excluding Defence Pension).

Detailed explanation-5: -2019 were the United States, China, India, Russia and Saudi Arabia, which together accounted for 62 per cent of global military spending. by 5.3 per cent to $732 billion. There were increases in military spending by China (5.1 per cent), India (6.8 per cent) and Russia (4.5 per cent).
