Detailed explanation-1: -Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully demonstrated the hypersonic air-breathing scramjet technology with the flight test of Hypersonic Technology Demonstration Vehicle (HSTDV) at 1103 hours from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Launch Complex at Wheeler Island, off the coast of Odisha today.

Detailed explanation-2: -With this successful test of HSTDV mission, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), said it has demonstrated capabilities for highly complex technology that will serve as the building block for NextGen Hypersonic vehicles and cruise missiles.

Detailed explanation-3: -The Scramjet engine designed by ISRO uses Hydrogen as fuel and the Oxygen from the atmospheric air as the oxidiser. The August 28 test was the maiden short duration experimental test of ISRO’s Scramjet engine with a hypersonic flight at Mach 6.

Detailed explanation-4: -The Hypersonic Attack Cruise Missile will have scramjet engines, which use high vehicle speed to compress incoming air forcibly before combustion, which enables sustained flight at hypersonic speeds.
