Detailed explanation-1: -GUWAHATI: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today informed that the cabinet has passed a historic decision by approving the “Policy on Reservation of seats for Women in Village Employment Councils (VECs)”.

Detailed explanation-2: -The Women’s Reservation Bill or The Constitution (108th Amendment) Bill, 9 th March, 2010, is a bill passed in the Parliament of India which says to amend the Constitution of India to reserve 1/3 of all seats in the lower house of Parliament of India, the Lok Sabha, and in all state legislative assemblies for women.

Detailed explanation-3: -In India, one-third of seats in local government bodies i.e in panchayats and municipalities are now reserved for women.

Detailed explanation-4: -The 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments facilitated the large-scale participation of women in political institutions at the local and regional levels by introducing 33% reservation in rural and urban local bodies. Currently, around 1.4 million women are elected representatives in India.
