Detailed explanation-1: -Joint Director of Social Justice Department, R P Singh, said that the Bhopal is the first district in the country to give ID cards to the transgender community. He also added that the ID cards will provide a distinct recognition to the third gender and enable them to benefit from the government schemes.

Detailed explanation-2: -Interested candidates may register at National Portal for Transgender Persons (https://transgender.dosje.gov.in) (if not registered already) and then apply through the login credentials used to issue the Transgender certificate & Identity Card.

Detailed explanation-3: -The Transgender certificate & identity card are nationally recognised and provided by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, the certificate is a mandatory document to avail the welfare measures being provided under the SMILE scheme.

Detailed explanation-4: -The Draft Rules state that to apply for a Certificate, applicants must provide (i) an application form, (ii) an affidavit declaring themselves to be transgender, and (iii) report from a psychologist of a government hospital. Based on these documents, the District Magistrate may certify the applicant as transgender.

Detailed explanation-5: -The ID card will contain a hologram for ensuring security and avoiding duplication of ID card. The card upholds the Supreme Court judgment on right to self-identify one’s gender as male, female or transgender.
