Detailed explanation-1: -Kudumbashree, the Kerala State Poverty Eradication Mission was launched on 17th May 1998 inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Detailed explanation-2: -The Prime Minister inaugurated the mission at Malappuram on 17th May 1998. SPEM was registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act of 1955 in November 1998. SPEM started functioning on 1st April 1999 under the local self-government department; it was named Kudumbashree mission.
