Detailed explanation-1: -Announcing this today, Anurag Thakur, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, said: “The tenure of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) is being extended till December 2022. In the next three months, around ₹ 44, 000 crore will be spent under this scheme."

Detailed explanation-2: -PMGKAY was started in April 2020 to help the poor whose livelihoods were shuttered by a nationwide lockdown aimed at containing the spread of the coronavirus. Under the scheme, 5 kg of wheat and rice is provided free of cost to 80 crore poor per month.
