Detailed explanation-1: -Overview. Avascular necrosis is the death of bone tissue due to a lack of blood supply. Also called osteonecrosis, it can lead to tiny breaks in the bone and cause the bone to collapse. The process usually takes months to years. A broken bone or dislocated joint can stop the blood flow to a section of bone.

Detailed explanation-2: -The history of phosphorous-associated osteonecrosis of the jaw, also called phosphorous necrosis, however goes back in time considerably. As early as in 1845, Friedrich Wilhelm Lorinser described nine cases of serious necrosis of the jaw that came to his attention in the year 1839 (Fig. 19.1).

Detailed explanation-3: -Osteonecrosis can be caused by disease or by severe trauma, such as a fracture or dislocation, that affects the blood supply to the bone. Osteonecrosis can also occur without trauma or disease. This is called idiopathic – meaning it occurs without any known cause.
