Detailed explanation-1: -The Centre has named its new free foodgrain scheme under the National Food Security Act, 2013, as ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY)’, the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said Wednesday.

Detailed explanation-2: -About National Food Security Act Beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act fall into two categories: Priority Households (PHH) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households, each of which is entitled to 35 kg of food grains each month (5 kg per person per month).

Detailed explanation-3: -NFSA covers upto 75% of the rural population and 50% of the urban population under under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and priority households.

Detailed explanation-4: -Till December 2022, the NFSA beneficiaries were getting their foodgrains entitlement at a highly subsidised rate of Re 1, Rs 2 and Rs 3 per kg for coarse cereals, wheat and rice, respectively.

Detailed explanation-5: -Continuing on the commitment to ensure food and nutrition security, central government is implementing from Jan 1, 2023, a scheme to supply free food grains to all antyodaya and priority households for the next 1 year.
