Detailed explanation-1: -Five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court upholds the validity of the Constitution’s 103rd Amendment Act 2019, which provides for the 10 per cent EWS reservation amongst the general category.

Detailed explanation-2: -A panel headed by the retired judge, KS Sasidharan Nair, was appointed by the government to set the criteria for EWS in the state.

Detailed explanation-3: -The Government of India recently formed an Economically Weaker Section (EWS) review panel. The panel will look in to the criteria of 10% reservation for the economically weaker section in government jobs and educational institutions.

Detailed explanation-4: -EWS reservation was granted based on the recommendations of a commission headed by Major General (retd) S R Sinho. The Commission for Economically Backward Classes was constituted by the then UPA government in 2005, and submitted its report in July 2010.
