Detailed explanation-1: -Ramsar Sites in India 2023 - Updated List of Ramsar Sites. Five new Ramsar sites (Wetlands of International Importance) were announced by the Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav in July 2022. Thus increasing the total number of Ramsar sites to 54.

Detailed explanation-2: -During this year itself (2022) a total of 28 sites have been declared as Ramsar sites. Based on the date of designation mentioned on Ramsar Certificate, the number is 19 for this year (2022) and 14 for previous year (2021).

Detailed explanation-3: -Earlier, India designated five new wetlands of international importance – the Karikili Bird Sanctuary, Pallikaranai Marsh Reserve Forest and Pichavaram Mangrove in Tamil Nadu, Pala wetland in Mizoram and Sakhya Sagar in Madhya Pradesh.

Detailed explanation-4: -In 2022, Twenty Six new sites were added that includes Karikili Bird Sanctuary, Pallikaranai Marsh Reserve Forest & Pichavaram Mangrove from Tamil Nadu, Pala wetland from Mizoram, Sakhya Sagar from Madhya Pradesh. The surface-area covered by Ramsar Sites are around 1,083,322 hectares.
