Detailed explanation-1: -Agasthiyamalai is Tamil Nadu’s 5th Elephant Reserve and also a Bioshphere Reserve.

Detailed explanation-2: -The proposal to designate 1,197.48 sq.km in Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli as the Agasthiyarmalai Elephant Reserve was approved by the Union Environment Ministry. Tamil Nadu will oversee this Agasthiyarmalai Elephant Reserve, which is the fifth elephant reserve.

Detailed explanation-3: -In a gazette dated August 12, the government notified Agasthyamalai Elephant Reserve with a total area of 1,19,748.26 hectares, constituting 81,811.36 hectares of forest from Tirunelveli district and 37,936.9 hectares of forest land from Kanyakumari district.
