Detailed explanation-1: -Defence Minister Rajnath Singh handed over to the Indian Army the much-awaited Future Infantry Soldier as a System (F-INSAS) in an unveiling ceremony of various defence and strategic systems held in Delhi on Tuesday.

Detailed explanation-2: -F-INSAS is India’s programme to equip its infantry with state-of-the-art equipment, F-INSAS standing for Future Infantry Soldier As a System. However the Indian Army has decided to drop the F-INSAS program in favour of two separate projects.

Detailed explanation-3: -THE INFANTRY It is the infantryman who pushes the enemy out of his bunker and forces him to accept defeat; or, resolutely holds ground against the assaults of the enemy till the “last man last round". Like all armies the world over, Infantry is the prime arm of the Indian Army.

Detailed explanation-4: -About the (F-INSAS) System: A rifle-mounted holographic sight with a range of 200 meters has been provided for target acquisition. A helmet-mounted night vision facility has been provided for infantry. The helmet and vest can protect from 9 mm ammunition and AK-47 assault rifles.

Detailed explanation-5: -Currently the INSAS assault rifles are being replaced in the army with the AK-203 assault rifles and the SIG 716i designated marksman rifles. The LMG variant of INSAS is being replaced with the IWI Negev.
