Detailed explanation-1: -The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, actually prohibits marriage below 18 years for women and 21 years for men. So, all the well-meaning laws meant to prevent child marriages and empower females have been enacted from time to time. However, right now, 23% of marriages in India are child marriages.

Detailed explanation-2: -The Narendra Modi government in March announced its decision to increase the age of marriage for women from 18 to 21 years under the Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

Detailed explanation-3: -As per the 1929 Act, marriage of girls below the age of 14 years and boys below the age of 18 years was prohibited. This Act was amended in 1978 to increase the minimum age to 18 years for females, and 21 years for men.

Detailed explanation-4: -Solution : (i) The Governemtn of India has enacted the law to fix the minimum age of marriage as 18 in girls and 21 in boys because at this age girls and boys become adults. <br> (ii) They have developed the secondary sexual characteristics , and they are physically and mentally ready to reproduce .
