Detailed explanation-1: -These vessels are classified as ‘strategic strike nuclear submarines’ by India. The lead vessel of the class, INS Arihant was laid down in 2004, launched in 2009 and after extensive sea trials was confirmed to be commissioned in August 2016.

Detailed explanation-2: -INS Shalki is India’s first indigenously built submarine. It was built by Mazagon Dock Limited, Mumbai. The length of this submarine is 211ft. It was launched in 1987 by then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and was commissioned in the navy in 1992.

Detailed explanation-3: -The construction of Nautilus-the world’s first nuclear powered submarine-was made possible by the successful development of a nuclear propulsion plant by a group of scientists and engineers, under the leadership of Captain Hyman G.
