Detailed explanation-1: -In a notification issued on January 27, the varsity said M. Phil programmes being run in various departments of the University of Delhi will be discontinued from 2022-23 in line with the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. There won’t be any new admissions to M.

Detailed explanation-2: -The MPhil programme is discontinued for the more research-oriented undergraduate and master’s degrees. In a way, the discontinuation of MPhil is the collateral damage caused by the new structure of degrees that the NEP has proposed.

Detailed explanation-3: -The Delhi University has issued a notification stating that MPhil will be discontinued from the next academic session in line with the National Education Policy 2020. The university will be implementing the policy from 2022-23.

Detailed explanation-4: -The UGC’s draft regulation states, “MPhil (Master of Philosophy) degree shall be de-specified from the Academic year 2022-23 onwards. MPhil degree awarded till the date of notification of these regulations shall remain valid.”
