Detailed explanation-1: -Nepal’s Cabinet has endorsed a new political map showing Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura under its territory, amidst a border dispute with India.

Detailed explanation-2: -Kalapani is the area in the Darchula district of the Sudurpaschim province of Nepal that borders the eastern front of Uttarakhand in India. The area lies in the southern half of the Kalapani river basin or on the banks of the Mahakali river.

Detailed explanation-3: -According to Nepal’s claim, it lies in Darchula district, Sudurpashchim Province. The territory represents part of the basin of the Kalapani river, one of the headwaters of the Kali River in the Himalayas at an altitude of 3600–5200 meters.

Detailed explanation-4: -With this, Nepal has now an area of 147, 516 sq km. According to the earlier version of Nepal’s map, officially issued in 2032 BS, it covered an area of 147, 181 sq km. 13 further; new map is officially used in all government communications. The new map issued by Nepal has been passed by the parliament.

Detailed explanation-5: -The dispute is mainly because of the varying interpretation of the origin of the river and its various tributaries that slice through the mountains. While Nepal’s claim of the territory east of Kali is based on the Limpiyadhura origin, India says the river actually takes the name Kali near Kalapani.
