Detailed explanation-1: -The Uttarakhand government has decided to convert waste generated in the state to electricity under an initiative titled ‘Waste to Energy’.

Detailed explanation-2: -Uttarakhand is a hilly state which consists of 90 urban local bodies, facing the problem of Solid Waste Management. There are only two solid waste plants in the state. Solid Waste Management process in decentralised method has recently been started at Nathuawala ward in Dehradun, having a population of 13000.

Detailed explanation-3: -Uttarakhand has an estimated capacity of 3355.02 MW of SHP out of approximately estimated capacity of 26215 MW. The estimated capacity of small hydro projects of Uttarakhand is 12% of total estimated capacity of Hydro power in Uttarakhand and 10.23% of targeted contribution of Hydro in 10th Five Year Plan.

Detailed explanation-4: -In addition, the State has significant Renewable Energy (RE) Sources that includes sites for developing Micro (up to 100 KW), Mini (100KW-5 MW) & Small (5-25 MW) Hydro power projects as well as sources for generating electricity through Biomass/Agro residue, Wind power, Solar energy, Cogeneration etc.

Detailed explanation-5: -The sustainability solutions provider TGBL has entered into a 30-year-long agreement with PMC. The Pune Municipal Corporation will set up country’s first solid waste-to-hydrogen plant in the city at a cost of over Rs 430 crore, an official said on Tuesday.
