Detailed explanation-1: -On 5 April 1663, Shivaji launched a surprise attack on Shaista Khan in Pune at Lal Mahal, at night along with a small group of chosen men. He and his men killed some of Shaista Khan’s wives but Shaista Khan escaped with a loss in finger to the melee of Shivaji. Shaista Khan was the uncle of Aurangzeb.

Detailed explanation-2: -Shivaji reached Khan’s room and made a surprising attack on him. Shaista Khan was asleep and got up, and tried to arm himself when the attack was made but he managed to escape in darkness by losing his thumb. Meanwhile, Mughal troops became alert and awake; Shivaji with his soldiers left the camp immediately.
