Detailed explanation-1: -With the introduction of railways in India in the 18th century, the demand for Timber rose which was due to the reason that the train tracks were made up of Timber, and to run the locomotive wood as fuel was required. During this time Timber was also used to make weapons and ships.

Detailed explanation-2: -The increased railway network created heavy demand for wood. Wood was required as fuel for the railways, to lay the track and for the sleepers. So this increased demand for wood resulted in indiscriminate felling of trees in the 1850s.
