Detailed explanation-1: -They need more light than short-day plants and usually flower when the temperature becomes warmer. Examples of long day plants are spinach, lettuce, radish, sugar beet etc.

Detailed explanation-2: -Flowering stimulus: Florigen The flowering stimulus is produced in leaves and translocated to apical and lateral meristems where flower formation is initiated. Chailakhyan (1937) called the flowering stimulus or flowering hormone as Florigen. Flowering stimulus is similar in long day plants and short day plants.

Detailed explanation-3: -These are termed “long-day” plants. These bloom only when they receive more than 12 hours of light. Many of our summer-blooming flowers and garden vegetables are long-day plants, such as asters, coneflowers, California poppies, lettuce, spinach and potatoes. These all bloom when the days are long, during our summers.
