Detailed explanation-1: -Rakhal Das Banerji, also Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay (12 April 1885 – 23 May 1930), was an Indian archaeologist and an officer of the Archeological Survey of India (ASI). In 1919, he became the second ASI officer deputed to survey the site of Mohenjo-daro and returned there in the 1922-23 season.
Detailed explanation-2: -The name Mohenjo-daro is reputed to signify “the mound of the dead.” The archaeological importance of the site was first recognized in 1922, one year after the discovery of Harappa. Subsequent excavations revealed that the mounds contain the remains of what was once the largest city of the Indus civilization.
Detailed explanation-3: -Harappa was discovered in 1921 by Dayaram Sahni. The excavations were done under the guidance of Sir John Marshal and Colonel Meke. Remains of the Harappan civilisation has been found in other cities like Mohen-Jo-Daro, Ropar, and Alamgirpur.
