Detailed explanation-1: -India and Namibia on Wednesday signed a crucial memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the reintroduction of cheetahs, declared extinct in the country in 1952. A senior environment ministry official said the first batch comprising four male and four female cheetahs will arrive from Namibia in August.

Detailed explanation-2: -On 17 September 2022, 8 cheetahs from Namibia arrived in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park, where they were released as part of the programme to reintroduce the feline in India. Out of the 8 cheetahs, 5 are female and 3 are male.

Detailed explanation-3: -India and South Africa (SA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to translocate more than 100 cheetahs to India over the next decade, confirmed the SA government January 26, 2023, in a press release.

Detailed explanation-4: -The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi today released wild Cheetahs - which had become extinct from India - in Kuno National Park. Cheetahs - brought from Namibia - are being introduced in India under Project Cheetah, which is world’s first inter-continental large wild carnivore translocation project.
