Detailed explanation-1: -The Certifying Authorities (CAs) issue digital signature certificates for electronic authentication of users. The Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) has been appointed by the Central Government under section 17 of the Act for purposes of the IT Act. The Office of the CCA came into existence on November 1, 2000.
Detailed explanation-2: -(1) The Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint a Controller of Certifying Authorities for the purposes of this Act and may also by the same or subsequent notification, appoint such number of Deputy Controllers 25 [Assistant Controllers, other officers and employees] as it deems fit.
Detailed explanation-3: -Sections 17 to 34 of Chapter VI of the Act provide for the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) to licence and regulate the working of Certifying Authorities (CAs). CCA also ensures that none of the provisions of the Act are violated.
Detailed explanation-4: -(1) Notwithstanding anything contained in any law for the time being in force but subject to the provisions of sub-sections (2) and (3), an intermediary shall not be liable for any third party information, data, or communication link made available or hosted by him.
