Detailed explanation-1: -On July 8th, 1822 the romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley drowned in the Bay of Lerici off the north-west coast of Italy when his small boat overturned in a squall. He was 29. Shelley and his wife Mary had settled in a cottage near Pisa.
Detailed explanation-2: -Some believe that Shelley scuppered the boat himself, in a selfish act of suicide, others that he was the victim of a pirate attack, or even that he was murdered for political reasons. His body was lost at sea for 11 days, and upon its retrieval was cremated on the beach at Viareggio.
Detailed explanation-3: -For reasons that are not known, Shelley’s heart remained whole instead of turning to ash in the fire, and Trelawney retrieved it from the flames (burning his hand in the process). The heart was eventually given to Mary Shelley, who reputedly kept it in her desk until her death thirty years later.
Detailed explanation-4: -In 1822, her husband drowned when his sailing boat sank during a storm near Viareggio. A year later, Shelley returned to England and from then on devoted herself to the upbringing of her son and a career as a professional author.
