Detailed explanation-1: -A theme should be a statement, not just one word. The lesson the author is teaching. The message the author is sending. A word that summarizes the story.
Detailed explanation-2: -The theme is the statement an author is making about a topic. Combine those topics with comments that reflect the author’s observations about human nature. What is the author saying about those topics? What does the author believe to be true about those topics?
Detailed explanation-3: -It’s not a debate for me; in fact, it’s a bit of a pet peeve when my students want to use one word to describe a theme. That’s because for me the answer to the question “is it one word or a statement” is clear: a theme is always a statement.
Detailed explanation-4: -Most stories, plays, novels, and poems have more than one theme. Some works, like mysteries, might be intended primarily for entertainment and not have a clear theme. A thematic statement is a complete sentence (or two) that express a theme.
Detailed explanation-5: -Read the work thoroughly. Before writing your theme statement, it’s important that you read and fully understand the material. Identify conflicts and central ideas. Consider the author’s perspective. State the theme. Edit for clarification. Keep it general. Avoid cliches. 03-Feb-2023
