D

Explanation:

Detailed explanation-1: -Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth that from now on the “balm” of sleep is over for him. He will no longer be able to rest in peaceful slumber after what he has done. The evil of his treacherous act will haunt him, keeping him up at night.

Detailed explanation-2: -The king was next and so to murder a king would be considered even more awful than by today’s social values. Macbeth’s punishment for this is that his own sleep is murdered. Macbeth says ‘the innocent sleep’ showing that Duncan was blameless and this makes him more guilty for killing him.

Detailed explanation-3: -Macbeth declares he will “sleep no more” because he believes. his conscience will never let him rest.

Detailed explanation-4: -In the first edition of 1623 … ‘sleave’ is spelt ‘sleeve’; and that is the word most people hear in performance, especially in conjunction with ‘knit’. The line is therefore taken to mean that the anxious mind is repaired by sleep, as a frayed sleeve is repaired by knitting.

Detailed explanation-5: -In this scene, Macbeth returns from murdering Duncan, alarmed that he heard a noise. Lady Macbeth dismisses his fears and sees that he has brought the guards’ daggers with him, rather than planting them at the scene of the crime. She tells him to return the daggers but he refuses and Lady Macbeth goes instead.
