Detailed explanation-1: -In time, some collagen breaks down at the site of the wound and the blood supply reduces. The scar gradually becomes smoother and softer. Although scars are permanent, they can fade over a period of up to 2 years. It’s unlikely they’ll fade any more after this time.

Detailed explanation-2: -Compared with uninjured skin, scar tissue demonstrates similar high-load stiffness, greatly reduced resistance to failure, reduced low-load compliance, and altered material directionality.

Detailed explanation-3: -Remodelling. Remodelling is the final phase of the healing process in which the granulation tissue matures into scar and tissue tensile strength is increased (Figure 23.5).
